SORA Nexus Announcement

Published: November 30, 2025

In late 2025, the SORA team unveiled SORA Nexus — the next-generation blockchain network that represents the most significant architectural evolution since SORA’s inception. Built on Hyperledger Iroha 3, Nexus introduces breakthrough technologies designed to position SORA as the backbone for global digital finance.

SORA Nexus is not merely an upgrade—it’s a fundamental reimagining of what the SORA network can be:

“SORA Nexus creates a supranational platform where CBDCs and digital assets operate free from political and economic instability.”

Hyperledger Iroha 3

Complete migration from Substrate to the next-generation Iroha framework.

Sub-Second Finality

Transactions finalize in under one second using enhanced Sumeragi consensus.

Data Spaces

Modular architecture enabling domain-specific blockchain applications.

FASTPQ Security

Post-quantum cryptographic primitives for future-proof security.

The decision to migrate from Substrate to Hyperledger Iroha 3 reflects SORA’s evolving requirements:

The enhanced Sumeragi consensus algorithm provides:

  • Deterministic finality — No block reorganizations
  • Byzantine fault tolerance — Operates with up to 1/3 malicious nodes
  • High throughput — Thousands of transactions per second
  • Low latency — Block times under 2 seconds

One of Nexus’s most innovative features is the Data Spaces concept:

Each Data Space can have:

XOR remains the native utility token, with enhanced roles:

Nexus positions SORA as infrastructure for Central Bank Digital Currencies:

  • National banks can deploy sovereign Data Spaces
  • Assets remain de-correlated from political instability
  • Global settlement layer connects isolated economies
  • SORAMITSU’s CBDC expertise embedded

The SORA Parliament receives significant upgrades:

Governance logic implemented via ISI:

  • Modular proposals — Domain-specific voting
  • Automated execution — On-chain enforcement
  • Cross-Data Space coordination — Unified governance
  • Sortition-based citizen selection continues
  • XOR bonds for citizenship maintained
  • New Panel structures for specialized decisions
  • Integration with external governance (Polkadot, TON)

The announcement generated significant discussion:

  • Validators — Interested in new staking mechanics
  • Developers — Excited about ISI capabilities
  • DeFi users — Looking forward to speed improvements
  • Enterprise — Intrigued by Data Spaces concept

Following the announcement, the roadmap includes:

  1. Whitepaper release — Full technical specification
  2. Testnet expansion — More Nexus-specific testing
  3. Migration planning — Detailed v2 → v3 pathway
